Arboretum's second update focuses on refining the user experience with faster performance, seamless transitions, and the ability to pick up right where you left off. Click here to download Arboretum v0.1.2 or just launch the app to update automatically.

Better performance and smoother transitions

Performance has been the thing that frustrates me most using Arboretum, and I've put a lot of work into improving it for v0.1.2. Now, almost every part of the app is faster and more responsive than it was when Arboretum launched in January. Just running faster is only half the story though, the way Arboretum loads and displays every part of the UI has also been overhauled in v0.1.2. Gone is the stuttering as different parts of the interface updated at different times, now each part of the app moves and changes together to avoid flicker and jarring transitions.

A few short paragraphs just can't do justice to how much better Arboretum feels in v0.1.2, compared not only to v0.1.1, but also to its peers. You'll just have to try it out and see how much better it is for yourself.

Back where you left off

Arboretum now remembers what you were doing when you last closed a project and restores it to that state when you open it again. This is one of the features I've felt myself missing the most when using Arboretum and I'm excited to bring it to everyone else today.

Other fixes

As always, v0.1.2 also fixes a number of bugs to improve your experience with Arboretum. To keep it to a few highlights, Documents will no longer appear multiple times in the same list and adding Connections to Documents manually is now much more reliable.

Looking ahead

When I shared the very first version of Arboretum with the world, I wrote "yes, folders are coming" as part of the first post on the news carousel. It's been two and a half months since then and yet they still haven't arrived. That's changing in Arboretum v0.1.3, which is in the works today. Arboretum's Collections aren't just folders though and I can't wait to share more soon. I'm hoping to put the folders vs tags debate to rest once and for all. That's all for Arboretum v0.1.2, try it out and let me know what you think! If you've got particularly strong feelings about this update, the next update, or any other Arboretum features, feel free to click the button below and join the discussion, or just email me directly at [email protected].
